== Abstract ==
As an historian of Islamic art in the Department of Art History at the Maryland Institute College of Art, I am
continually learning as I endeavor to teach my students about pattern. Teaching about pattern in Islamic art has
facilitated my own exploration of geometry in ways that also benefits my students. This visual presentation
explores the results of a single assignment that pertains to coloring a linear plate reproduced in Bourgoin’s classic
work [6], Arabic Geometrical Pattern and Design.
