John S. Gero ist ein Professor am Department of Computer Science und an der School of Architecture an der Universität North Carolina at Charlotte. Er ist weiterhin Professor am Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study und am Department of Computational Social Science der George Mason University. Er war Professor für Design Wissenschaft und Co-Direktor am Key Centre of Design Computing and Cognition der Universität Sydney.
