Seit Ende der 1990er entwickelt er das System NEvAr im Bereich der Evolutionären Kunst. Begonnen hat es al interaktives Sytsem zu Evolutionären Kunst und hat sich durch die Integration von Ästhetikmaßen zu einer Vorform eines Künstlichen Künstlers entwickelt, das nicht nur Werke selbständig durch Evolutionäre Algorithmen (Genetic Programming) erzeugen, sondern diese auch bewerten kann, wodurch eine Evolution hin zu ästhetischeren Werken durchgeführt wird.

Person

Dr. Penousal Machado ist Dozent (Assistant Professor) für Informatik an der portugiesischen Universität Coimbra und Wissenschaftler in der "Cognitive and Media Systems" Gruppe am "Centre for Informatics and Systems" der Universität Coimbra.


Wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit

Seine wissenschaftlichen Interessen umfassen Computer Kunst und speziell Evolutionäre Kunst, Nature Inspired Computing und speziell Evolutionary Computation, sowie Künstliche Intelligenz und Computer Kreativität. Er ist interessiert an der Entwicklung von Künstlichen Künstlern (artificial artists) und kreativitätsunterstützende Computersysteme mit Hilfe von Evolutionären Algorithmen.

Er ist Autor von mehr als 50 Zeitschriften- und Konferenzartikeln im Bereich des Evolutionary Computation, der Künstlichen und Evolutionären Kunst und künstlicher Kreativität und Mitherausgeber des Buches The Art of Artificial Evolution: A Handbook on Evolutionary Art and Music, dem Standardwerk in diesem Forschungsfeld.

Er ist im Herausgebergremium mehrerer Zeitschriften wie dem Journal of Artificial Evolution and Applications, Journal of Mathematics and the Arts und dem International Journal on Artificial Intelligence Tools.

Er ist weiterhin im Vorsitz und dem Programm-Komitee mehrerer wissenschaftlicher Veranstaltungen und Konferenzen u.a. zur Künstlichen Kunst.


Künstlerische Tätigkeit

Seit Ende der 1990er entwickelt er das System NEvAr im Bereich der Evolutionären Kunst. Begonnen hat es al interaktives Sytsem zu Evolutionären Kunst und hat sich durch die Integration von Ästhetikmaßen zu einer Vorform eines Künstlichen Künstlers entwickelt, das nicht nur Werke selbständig durch Evolutionäre Algorithmen (Genetic Programming) erzeugen, sondern diese auch bewerten kann, wodurch eine Evolution hin zu ästhetischeren Werken durchgeführt wird.
